What’s Happening Now:
- Tasmanian Regional Input-Output Model. IMC-Link has developed a comprehensive Regional Input-Output model. Economic modelling underpins our economic research and advice as it measures the direct, induced and indirect effects of a change in final demand of the relevant industries. The model has now been tested and is being effectively deployed within our current projects.
- Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) Supportive Brigade Workshop Program. IMC-Link has been contracted to facilitate highly interactive workshops to over 70 TFS brigades throughout the State. The workshops will focus on the needs of each individual brigade. Members will examine their brigade’s strengths and diversity and will encourage brigades to meet any possible challenges in relation to discrimination or harassment.
- Assessing the Economic Contribution of the Racing industry to the Tasmanian Economy. TasRacing has engaged IMC-Link to undertake an examination of the three racing codes - thoroughbreds, harness and greyhounds - over a 12 month period including the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival. The review will apply the IMC-Link Regional Input-Output Matrix (RIOM) model to calculate economic impacts, and will be further informed through surveys of current and potential customers.
- Assessing the relevance of a rent resources tax imposed on the Tasmanian Abalone Industry. The overarching aim of this study is to assess the relevance of the current royalty on the Tasmanian Abalone Industry. Among other areas, the report will: assess the recent behavior of beach prices to determine the profitability of abalone quota owners; analyse the behavior of final abalone market prices from 1999 to 2009; quantify the internal rate of return of the abalone fishery from cost and beach price data; determine if there are supernormal profits earned by the Tasmanian abalone industry; and present recommendations in regards to the current royalty regime on quota owners.
- MS Society of Tasmania Client Needs Survey. IMC-Link will create and implement a survey tool to collate and interpret demographic profile information for the Society. The results will be presented in a final report.
- Measuring the Economic Impact of Sport and Recreation to the Tasmanian Economy. This project aims to critically examine the economic value that Tasmanian sport and recreation contributes to the State’s economy, including; the socio impact that sport and recreation contributes to the State’s employment and volunteer services, and the value that can be attributed to sport and recreation from the total value of various sectors.
